The project planning is divided into three phases: (i) construction of the dike model, (ii) installation of measurement devices and supply equipment for grass growth, and (iii) the actual test programme.

The construction of the dike model comprises the building of the sand core, the installation of the clay layer and, finally, the installation of the grass sods. These actions have been estimated to last for about 6 weeks. Within this time, actions such as the transportation of clay from Denmark to the Coastal Research Centre in Hannover and the excavation of the grass sods in Denmark will also take place.

After completion of the dike model, the measurement devices and supply equipment for grass growth are installed. The measurement devices will allow for measuring e.g. the wave run-up and run-down velocity, the wave impact pressure and the wave overtopping volume. The supply equipment for continued grass growth comprises illumination, ventilation and irrigation.

The test programme will last about 3 weeks and is divided into two test phases. The first test phase will focus on the grass cover erosion on the seaward slope due to wave impact and wave run-up and run-down flow. Within the second test phase, erosion of the grass cover on the landward slope due to wave overtopping and down-slope flow will be investigated.

The following figure gives an overview about the project planning and the different project phases. The actual workflow may deviate from the shown project planning.
